The Everest Base Camp Trek takes you into the heart of the Khumbu Region, home to one of the native mountain people of Nepal, Sherpa. During this trek, you will see famous small Sherpa settlements, Gompas, monasteries, rhododendron forests passing through many suspension bridges and wooden bridges. After the successful climb on the top of the Mt. Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay on May 29, 1953, the Everest region has been popular among the mountaineers. Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay and their victory have put the Khumbu region on the map of trekkers. Ever since countless mountaineers and trekkers have come to Everest region and enjoyed the beauty of Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Gokyo Lakes, Kala Patthar and much more.

To preserve the beauty that surrounds Mt. Everest and the other mountains in the Himalayan range and to maintain its sustainability and to support the local communities living in the harsh rough Himalayan region of Nepal, the Government of Nepal imposes permit to visitors as an entrance fee.
For the Everest Base Camp Trek- 15 days you need the following entrance permits and fees as explained below:
1. Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit
The rural municipality of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu charges NPR 2,000 ($20) per person. The charge is imposed not only to trekkers but also to the tourist who tours the region via helicopter.
2. Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit
For Foreigners
- NPR 3000 ($30) per person+13% VAT
For SAARC
- NPR 1500 ($15) per person+ 13% VAT
Note:
- If you are trekking to Everest Base Camp from Jiri, an additional Gaurishankar Conservation Area Project Permit is required as a certain part of this trekking route falls under the protected areas of Gaurishankar Conservation Area Project (GCAP). The Gaurishankar Conservation Area Permit cost NPR. 3000 and can be obtained from Nepal Tourism Board, Kathmandu or at Shivalaya.

Where can the Permits for the Everest Base Camp Trek obtain?
The new regulations since 2018, allow you to now obtain permits for the Everest Region in the region itself.
Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit can be obtained in Lukla upon paying to the Local Government of Khumbu. For trekking from Jiri or Salleri, this permit can be obtained in Monjo. This permit is not available in Kathmandu and needs to be obtained in the Khumbu.
Sagarmatha National Park Entry Permit can be obtained in Monjo, Entry point of Sagarmatha National Park. If you want to get the permit in advance then you can obtain this Entry Permit at the Nepal Tourism Board office in Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu.
Documents required for Everest Base Camp Trek Permits
For the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality and Sagarmatha National Park permits, your passport details are sufficient. If you are trekking in a group the letter for the Nepal agency with your passport detail is enough to obtain the permits.
