About Mardi Himal Trek

Mardi Himal Trekking is a relatively new trekking route in Annapurna region opened since 2012. Mardi Himal trekking route is located towards the east of the Modi Khola across the valley from Hiunchuli. The Mardi Himal Trek is an ideal choice for those who are looking for an ‘off the beaten path' trekking experience in the quieter region of the Annapurna region in Nepal. The trek takes you to the least visited area of the Annapurna region offering the unspoiled beauty away from trekkers madding crowd. The trails have one of the best cultural and natural heritage to offers to the visitors.

The region is rich in biodiversity and wildlife. The trail crosses cool rivers, lush green valleys, terraced farms, and warm, pristine Juniper and Rhododendron forests and beautiful, quaint and traditional villages. We could get the chance to catch the glimpse of Danphe, Himalayan Thar, Musk deer, Spotted Deer, Barking Deer, and snow leopard if got lucky.

The trek also offers a magnificent view of majestic mountains in the central Himalayas which includes Mt. Annapurna I (8091m), Annapurna II (7937m), Annapurna III (7855m), Annapurna IV (7525m), Annapurna South (7819m), Varaha Shikhar (7847m), Himchuli (6441m), Dhaulagiri I (8163m), Dhaulagiri II (7751m), Nilgiri (6940m), Thapa Peak (6015m), Tukche Peak (6920m), Machhapuchhre (6991m), Mardi Himal (5588m), Singu Chuli (6500m), Tharpu Chuli (5663m), Gangapurna (7483m), and Lamjung Himal (6931m).

Itinerary

Upon arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be received by a representative from Lapha Holidays and then transferred to your hotel. You will be welcomed by some welcome drink. We will then have a quick small brief discussion on the trek and raise questions and get insights on the adventure. After meeting you can check in to your room and freshen up and rest in the comfort of your hotel to avoid the jetlag. If you are not tired feel free to explore your vibrant surrounding.

We will start our day early today. You will find our private vehicle waiting outside the hotel which will take you to domestic airport for the morning flight to Pokhara after breakfast. After getting off from the flight, we will take a Jeep from Pokhara to Kande which is about 1 hour drive. Our trekking journey begins from Kanda. We trek to Pothana from Kande which is about 3-4 hours walk through rhododendron and pine forests. You get to witness magnificent views of Annapurna ranges, Lamjung Himal and Manaslu along the trails.

Today our trial continues to Low Camp which is at the height of 3150m. It will take about 3 hours to reach there. On the way we will be enjoying the view of beautiful rhododendron forest and splendid Machhapuchhre Himal (Fishtail). There are fewer lodges in Low camp but the facilities are adorable. The lodges are facilitated with WiFi, hot shower, extra blankets and many more.

Today, after breakfast we head to High Camp which will take around 5-6 hours to reach there. The route passes through the Mardi ridge providing the splendid view of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna Sourth and Hiunchuli. The isolated rhododendron bushes and clourful Pheasant are also the major attraction of this trail.

Today is the most awaited day of our trek. We start our day early to catch the spectacular sunrise view over the Annapurna from the High Camp. After breakfast, we continue our journey from High Camp to Mardi Himal Base Camp which stands at an altitude of 4350m. The trail is narrow and rocky which can be challenging. The hardship of the day is generously rewarded with the breathtaking views of Mardi Himal Base Camp and its surrounding mountain ranges, snowy landscape along with exotic flora and fauna. After spending some quality time here in the base camp, we descend to Sidding. The way to Sidding can be sloppy and slippery, one need to be much careful. After 3 hours of walking, we finally reach Sidding.

From Sidding, we trek to Lumre passing through the villages of Kalimati and Ghalel. We take the jeep from Lumre which will take us back to Pokhara and drop up in our designated hotel. We can rest and freshen up in the hotel. In the evening depending upon the time, we can stroll around the Pokhara city.

Today, we fly back to Kathmandu. The 25 min flight from Pokhara to Kathmandu is outstandingly scenic. Once you reach the domestic wing of the Kathmandu airport, you can find a representative from Lapha holidays who will transfer you to your hotel. You can best spend the remaining day shopping souvenirs for your friends and family and strolling around Kathmandu city. In the evening, Marron Treks will host a farewell dinner featuring a range of delicious Nepali cuisines and cultural program.

A representative from Lapha Holidays will escort you to the airport for your final departure. Have a safe flight back home and we look forward to being your adventure companion in Nepal again.
